Just The Right Words

Ecclesiastes 12:10, "The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true."

This is my prayer: "Father, give me just the right words...give me words that are upright and true."

This is my prayer each week when I begin typing another article. I long for just the right words that will encourage, enlighten, and build up.

This is my prayer when my phone rings and on the other end of the conversation I hear the voice of a soul seeking advice, counsel, or information.

This is my prayer when someone walks into my office seeking wisdom for life, love, relationship, vocation, or the spiritual walk.

This is my prayer when I step in front of an audience with the Word of God in my hand, in my heart, and about to be on my lips.

This is my prayer when I walk into a hospital room knowing that the unknown is the main thing the patient wishes they could know.

This is my prayer when my wife says, "I want your honest opinion."

This is my prayer when one of my children asks, "What do you think?"

This is my prayer when I walk into a meeting with our ministry team, and a business meeting, or a meeting with our spiritual leaders.

This is my prayer when I sit with a friend knowing that we have only a short time together and that time is almost over.

This is my prayer when I stand with a couple as they pledge their love and life long devotion to one another.

This is my prayer when I'm riding in the car with someone I don't know real well and the awkward silence gets louder and louder.

This is my prayer when a person reveals a darkest secret and asks me what he should do.

This is my prayer when a heart that is breaking spills over with tears flooding the room.

This is my prayer when I stand before a family trying to come to terms with the fact that this life always ends with death.

This is my prayer when I open my journal and try to tell the Lord what is on my heart.

This is my prayer as I conclude this article.

"Father, give me just the right words...give me words that are upright and true."
