Looking For Someone To Devour
All too often I am being reminded of how much the enemy hates our Father and will stop at nothing to hurt our Father and weaken our relationship to Him. All too often I am faced with the reality that our enemy is deceitful, ruthless, and deadly. All too often I am being reminded of how alert we must be to withstand the attacks the enemy launches against us. Here are some of the reminders.
Our enemy does not want the world to see the good that people. Therefore, he is a master at overshadowing the good people do with the bad people do. He keeps our attention on the evil, and not the good. He taints the pure with impurity. He discredits the credible with doubt.
Our enemy does not want to the church to be successful in our mission to reach the lost. Therefore, he will distract us from our mission by causing us to focus on flaws in other people and convincing us that our mission is not really very important.
Our enemy does not want God's people to be recognizable "by our love for one another." Therefore, he stirs up disputes, erects barriers, and infects relationships with distrust.
Our enemy does not want God's children to sing praises to our Father. Therefore, he will help us to focus on how we sing the wrong songs, and how we sing the right songs the wrong way, and how we think things should have been done.
Our enemy does not want families to be a force for good in our society. Therefore he tears families apart with lies, deceit, and immoral activity.
Our enemy does not want me to be the husband and father God wants me to be and has enabled me to be. Therefore he puts doubt in my mind, magnifies the mistakes that I make, and reinforces every selfish thought that I have.
Our enemy does not want us to be at peace with our Father. Therefore he will make wrong look right, bad look good, truth to look false, and hope to look bleak.
Our Father does not want us to be defeated by the enemy. Therefore He said, "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8, NIV).
Don't let the enemy win another battle,
